The Best Diet for my Pets!

With dental disease affecting 80% of dogs and 70% of cats by the age of 3, keeping your pet’s teeth strong and healthy is very important to their overall wellbeing.

An easy preventative option to achieve this is a good quality dental diet. There are only three diets that are scientifically proven to prevent and decrease the amount of tartar on your pet’s teeth. These three diets are Royal Canin Dental, Hills TD and Purina Dental Health. For my three pets, the RC dental diet has been beneficial in maintaining my pet’s teeth to be clean and healthy. The RC dental is one of the most exceptional veterinary diets available in Canada.

There are four key benefits of the RC Dental diet that makes it unique.

1. The diet has a triple action approach to managing and preventing periodontal disease. The Mechanical Action acts like a toothbrush to scrub the teeth and reduces the accumulation of plaque. This is achieved by the size and shape of the kibble. The Tartar Reducing Ingredient (sodium tripolyphosphates) acts as toothpaste by binding to the calcium in the saliva and preventing calculus and tartar on both chewing and non-chewing teeth. The Plaque Reducing Nutrients serve as mouthwash and help prevent plaque formation with their anti-bacterial and anti-adhesive properties. Thus giving the diet a triple action toothbrush/toothpaste/mouthwash component.

2. Highly digestible protein, prebiotics, C.E.L.T (vitamin C and E, lutein and taurine) antioxidant blend and therapeutic levels of omega fatty acids are all part of the Dental Formulas to improve the pet’s skin and coat quality and contributes to a healthy gastrointestinal and immune system. This leads to a healthier skin barrier, and glossier coat which in turn leads to less shedding with long-term use!

3. The RC Dental diet for cats and small dogs has the S/O Index which is essential for bladder and urinary health. Small dogs and feline patients are more likely to experience crystals, stones and bladder infections. With the S/O Index, the dental formulas for cats and dogs have the RSS (Relative Super Saturation) technology which is used to decrease the risk of struvite and calcium oxalate crystals and stone formation.

4. They didn’t forget about the large dogs when they formulated the RC Dental diet for “all dogs.” This diet has glucosamine and chondroitin which in combination with the omega fatty acids supports joint health and reduces joint inflammation.

The gold standard for dental health in a pet is brushing their teeth every day but we know that isn’t always easy, so feeding a diet that does the hard work for you is a great option! You can feel good about giving your furry family member a healthy diet that is safe, nutritious and jam-packed with good stuff that benefits your pet!
