A compassionate procedure for cats suffering from chronic pain or terminal illness.
Euthanasia is a very heartbreaking reality of sharing your life with your cat. We know how difficult it is to say goodbye to a furry family member and the veterinarians at Lomsnes Veterinary Hospital are here to advise and support you through this very difficult time.
Deciding to euthanize your cat is a very tough decision and it is difficult to know when it is the right time to say goodbye. Our veterinarians can help you make this decision by doing a quality of life exam and discussing your options. Please contact the staff at Lomsnes Veterinary Hospital if you have any questions about euthanasia.
We will have a private, quiet room ready for you when you come in with your cat. We want to make them as comfortable as possible, an intravenous catheter will be placed in your cat’s front leg and a sedation and pain medication may be given. When you are ready one our compassionate veterinarians will administer a medication that will euthanize your cat. The veterinarian will give you as much time as you need and will check on you periodically while you visit. After you have finished saying goodbye your veterinarian will take care of your cat.

When you decide to euthanize your cat our veterinarians will ask you about cremation. There are 2 options when it comes to cremation, general and private cremation. A general cremation means you do not get your cat’s ashes back, they are cremated with other animals and their ashes are spread on the property of the Red Deer Pet Cremation Services. A private cremation means you get your cat’s ashes back in a sealed urn or a chatterbox and we call you when the ashes arrive at Lomsnes Veterinary Hospital.
